Activision CEO Bobby Kotick: There Will Always Be Call of Duty Games
If you think mashing the dislike button on YouTube is going to make Call of Duty slow down any, then you are sorely mistaken. According to Activision CEO Bobby Kotick, the publisher’s most successful series isn’t going anywhere. That certainly makes sense when you consider how much money the series brings in each year, and Kotick goes as far to say that “there will always be Call of Duty games.”
That line comes from an audio interview that Marketplace conducted with the Activision boss. Besides Call of Duty, Kotick also talks about the company’s plans for mobile gaming, and how being platform agnostic is a huge advantage for the publisher. Activision’s influential first-person shooter franchise has been a yearly staple for over a decade at this point. To make sure that the quality doesn’t drop, Activision now has three talented developers (Infinity Ward, Treyarch and Sledgehammer Games) working on the series at all times. This year will actually see the release of two separate Call of Duty titles: Infinity Ward’s Infinite Warfare and Modern Warfare Remastered by Raven Software. Both games will release on November 4, and Modern Warfare Remastered is only available by purchasing Infinite Warfare‘s Legacy Edition for $79.99. It’s been a move that has seen some vocal dissent, but one that will surely shift copies of the game.
