There was another Apple event today, and like the last several Apple events including last year’s WWDC it was entirely an online presentation due to the ongoing pandemic. And of course, it took place this morning at precisely the same time my internet service provider was at my house swapping out all of my equipment. So I missed the whole thing! Just about all of it was stuff that had already been leaked previously, which always steals some of the excitement of these new product announcements, but such is life nowadays in the Apple-shpere.
One of the biggest announcements today was a brand new iPad Pro model that comes equipped with Apple’s new M1 chip. These custom-developed chips made their debut in MacBook Air and Pro, as well as the Mac Mini, late last year and have shown to be extremely performant SoCs. However, Apple has been doing this same thing with their A Series chips in iOS devices for more than a decade now, and as I understood it the new M Series was simply a slight variant taking into account the special needs of laptop and desktop computing.
