‘DOOM’ and ‘DOOM II’ Get Major Updates Bringing In New Widescreen Rendering, Additional Frame Rate Options, PS4 and Xbox One Controller Support, New Touch Controls, and More



Ever since Bethesda brought back DOOM ($4.99) and DOOM II ($4.99) on the App Store and Google Play, both releases have been getting big updates with new content and fixes including support for free add-ons. Today, an update for both DOOM and DOOM II is rolling out across all platforms with a ton of new features, enhancements, and fixes.
As of this writing, the update is live for me on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. It has rolled out on Android but is yet to go live on iOS. The update has improvements for all platforms and iOS-specific fixes and changes like a new touch control option with more precise controls and momentum changes. For iOS, PS4 and Xbox One controllers are also natively supported with mappings matching other platforms. On mobile and PC, various frame limiting options are available with 30, 60, 90, ad 120 fps support on iOS. An optional crosshair is also available and I’m going to enable this on everything. The highlight is widescreen rendering for the engine which is a first for an official port of DOOM and DOOM II. Watch the original re-release trailer for the ports on all platforms below:
Barring those features, today’s update has added a secret area notification, ultra violence+ skill level, BTSX Episode 1 and 2 in both games (was previously just in DOOM II), proper enemy behaviour in nightmare, delay and lighting issues being fixed, some cut content restored, and more.
