Apple released its Best of 2016 lists, which highlighted the best games and applications available to download on the iTunes App Store.
Apple selected Supercell’s Clash Royale as the best game of the year, followed by Reigns from Devolver Digital and Nerial in second place. In terms of apps, Prisma Labs’ Prisma was selected as the best, followed by Facebook’s MSQRD as the runner-up.
Apple also highlighted Niantic’s Pokemon Go as the “Breakout Hit” of the year.
In addition to revealing these top games and apps, Apple also revealed the top paid, top free and top grossing apps of 2016. Warner Bros.’ Heads Up! was the top paid app of 2016, followed by Laan Labs’ Face Swap Live. For free apps, Snapchat and Facebook Messenger came in first and second, respectively. Finally, the top grossing app of 2016 was Machine Zone’s Game of War: Fire Age, followed by Pokemon Go in second. Overall, here are Apple’s selections for the top 10 games of 2016:
