Cubs Win 2016 World Series, and Twitter and Facebook Explode
The end of a 108-year championship drought brought a flood of activity to Facebook and Twitter Wednesday night.
The Chicago Cubs won Major League Baseball?s World Series for the first time since 1908, beating the Cleveland Indians in extra innings in game seven.
Facebook said that during the course of the World Series, from Oct. 25 through Nov. 2, 33 million users were responsible for more than 150 million interactions on the social network.
And this year?s Fall Classic set World Series and MLB marks on Twitter, with more than 18 million tweets about the World Series, including a whopping 10.5 million about game seven.
Andrew Barge, who works on sports partnerships for Twitter, said in a blog post that the three top World Series moments in terms of tweets per minute, all during Wednesday night?s game, were:
Game seven ends and the Cubs win the World Series.
Indians outfielder Rajai Davis hits a two-run home run in the eighth inning to tie the game.
Cubs outfielder and World Series Most Valuable Player Ben Zobrist doubles to give the Cuts a 7-6 lead in the top of the 10th inning.

Kris Bryant
Kyle Schwarber
