Snapchat iOS Update Includes New World Lenses, Support for Spectacles
Snap Inc. released an update for Snapchat on iOS, which includes a few new features and added support for Spectacles, Snap’s sunglasses that contain an integrated video camera.
First, when users are viewing Snaps, they can now press and hold on a Snap to send it to other users within the app. Once a Snap has been sent, users can tap on the left side of the screen to return to the original Story view.
Elsewhere, users can now activate new World Lenses when using the outward-facing camera on their devices. These World Lenses are visual filters that allow users to add overlays such as falling snow and animated hearts to their environments before taking photos and videos. In addition, users can now tap on their faces while video chatting to activate lenses during those chats.
Finally, Mashable discovered that this update prepared the application for the release of Spectacles. Specifically, this update added a “Spectacles” option to the app’s settings menu. When a user taps the Spectacles option, they’re taken to a page where they can pair Spectacles to their device. Users can also tap a button to learn more about Spectacles on the product’s website.
The new version of Snapchat is available to download for free on the iTunes App Store.
