DOGOS Teaches You Not To Be A Zeetnuk
There is one takeaway from DOGOS: if you're an alien race, don't call yourself the Zeetnuks. Nobody is ever going to take you seriously. They won't even bother to send more than one ship after you! Branding is important, even for evil alien overlords.
DOGOS is a shmup with large, open levels and dynamic camera control - which basically means that you're free to roam around and explore each level. When the screen is swarming with enemies, it feels great to dodge, weave, circle-strafe, and just blow stuff up. I stopped caring about the story after the word 'Zeetnuks', but hey, that's not the point of a shmup, anyway. The game delivers where it needs to deliver, and that's with lots of explosions and non-stop action.
There are a few minor niggles, like how you sometimes have to trudge back to the exit after completely clearing out a level, or how you need pretty precise aim for your air-to-ground missiles and the game rarely gives you the time to line up those shots. However, this is a really solid shooter overall. The open level design and its "go anywhere" approach offer something different, even for regular shmup players. There are 14 varied stages, a couple of boss fights, and the option to customize your loadout - more than enough for a few fun hours of mindless shootage.
You can purchase DOGOS from Steam, the Playstation Store (PS4), and the Xbox One Store for $11.99. For more information, you can visit the game's website or follow developers OP...
