Dual Gear is bringing back fully customizable mechas
One of the most underrated and perhaps underrepresented genres in recent years is the mecha.The genre might be niche, especially for the Japanese market which is why I am quite surprised to find out that a developer from Thailand is working on a mecha game. Dual Gear, a tactical turn-based strategy game, is developed by Orbital Speed Studio from Bangkok, a throwback to games like Armoured Core, Mech Warrior, or Front Mission which all feature strong RPG elements and heavily customizable mecha.
Set in the near future, the discovery of a new energy source from space has sparked a resurgent global arms race and as a result, the Dual Gear was born. As mentioned above, a true mecha game lies in its heavy customization. Recently, they've launched a closed alpha test containing the feature and released a promo video showing how it works. Each part of the mech is functionally and cosmetically customizable which is pretty cool, because what better way to show off your nimble mecha than giving it a red hot color" The alpha build also contains a skirmish mission as well as an accompanying promo video. The combat and movement animations are very slick, and the mech designs do invoke memories of the classics of the genre.
