Gamescom 2016 - Bits And Bobs
5 days, 345.000 visitors, and too many new and interesting games to count - that's Gamescom for you. Here are a couple of games that caught my attention, with more to follow in the coming days.
Dimension Drive (2Awesome Studio, 2017)
Dimension Drive is a dual-battlefield vertical shoot'em up. Essentially, you're single-handedly fighting two shoot'em ups side-by-side, zipping between screens and not trying to accidentally warp into a wall or something. It's a neat concept for a single-player title, but it truly shines during co-op play. The game's development has been somewhat troubled, to say the least, but it looks and plays great by now.
Haimrik (Below the Game, 2017)
Right at the top on the list of things you should probably not do is "sign weird demonic books with your own blood." But that's exactly what Haimrik, a young scribe and a bumbling fool to boot, does in this action-adventure puzzle game. There's text on the screen, and you can interact with it and actually use it to change reality, which is pretty innovative and allows for some interesting situations. Monsters blocking your way" Go back to the part of the text that says "sword" and show 'em who's boos! It's also over-the-top silly, unnecessary gory, and pretty strange overall. Sounds like a great time to me.
Lantern (Storm In A Teacup, Q4 2016)
Promising an entirely non-violent and relaxing experience, Lantern looks spectacular. Be the wind and guide a sky lante...
