Fallout 76 Cross-Play May Never Be Supported



Sony finally allowing Fortnite cross-play has taken the gaming community by storm. Gamers, industry members, and even competing companies have publicly celebrated this news. Among them was Pete Hines, Senior Vice President of Global Marketing and Communications at Bethesda, which led to an onslaught of fan questions regarding Fallout 76.
We already knew that Fallout 76 wouldn’t support cross-play but Sony’s recent change of heart has added a slight crack to every closed door. Think what you will, but don’t get your hopes up. Pete Hines has since tweeted out that he “[has] no idea” if Fallout 76 will ever support cross-play. And with the B.E.T.A and launch on the horizon it is not even on Bethesda’s list of things to possibly do in the upcoming game. Here is the official tweet from Hines, offering his updated take on Fallout 76 cross-play

Folks, chill. I work with a lot of devs and games for whom this is important going forward.
Fallout 76 does not support crossplay, for a number of reasons. I have no idea if it ever will. But I assure you it is not on our radar right now as we focus on B.E.T.A. and Launch.

Technologically speaking, cross-play has plenty of complications. But considering recent developments and the desire from developers and fans, it seems like cross-play will eventually become the new industry standard. Just not today. Bethesda does plenty of good, but even this huge studio...
