Harada Talks Tekken 7 Geese Howard DLC, and Shows Off New Gameplay
IGN got the chance to speak with Tekken 7 director Katsuhiro Harada, and get a demonstration of upcoming DLC character Geese Howard. While it was Michael Murray playing the character (gameplay is embedded below), Harada took time to answer questions about the Fatal Fury character’s inclusion.
They first delved into how he differed mechanically. “Since he’s from King of Fighters (and also the Fatal Fury series), people that are familiar with those series will be able to dive right in,” explained Harada. “He’s basically a 2D character. As you can see, he’s got all these elements that help him match our game. Some things that might have stood out at first now seem more natural.”
Harada also compared Geese Howard to being similar to Akuma. “One of the things that are the same is that they have that stop/hit effect to the animations that make them look like their 2D counterparts. Same with Akuma, we didn’t receive any animations, we created everything you see from scratch.” Finally, Harada explained that they were initially concerned about Geese playing too similar to Akuma, but it wound up not being that way since Akuma can attack from a distance while Geese requires up-close combat.
