Overwatch PS4 Pro Patch Detailed, First Strike Novel Canned
A technical analysis carried out by Digital Foundry has cast light on the Overwatch PS4 Pro patch, deeming it to be “one of the least impressive Pro upgrades seen to date.”
First released last week, DF’s report confirmed that Overwatch runs at a native 1080p on Sony’s new hardware, while an official statement from Blizzard notes that the upgrades are largely limited to “better texture filtering and UI enhancements.”
“Primarily, Overwatch players can expect improved performance in 1920×1080 resolution on PlayStation 4 Pro. We’ve also made several minor improvements that take advantage of the console’s capabilities, including better texture filtering and UI enhancements.”
Indeed those UI enhancements have caused headaches for some players, after YouTube user SharingAn85 posted a video showcasing how the patch causes enemy names and health bars to disappear without warning. Blizzard is yet to respond to this particular issue at the time of writing. Elsewhere, the publisher announced plans to pull the plug on Overwatch: First Strike. The graphic novel was pitched as an exploration of the shooter’s context and, in particular, the Omnic Crisis, though Lead Writer Michael Chu confirmed its cancellation via a forum post, stating, “while we are grateful to the team for the fantastic work they put into it, we’ve ultimately decided to take the story in a different direction.”
