Ranking the Best and Worst of the Silent Hill Series
While Capcom’s Resident Evil franchise showed that there was a place for survival horror games on consoles, it was Konami’s Silent Hill series that really took it to the next level. The moody, atmospheric video games weren’t scared to push the envelope, and they featured more psychological horror than other contemporaries that just threw zombies at players.
Sadly, the main series plateaued on PlayStation 2, and recent entries have been disappointing. Things looked like they were going to change with Hideo Kojima’s involvement in the now cancelled Silent Hills, but now that game is no longer being made after Kojima’s well-documented departure from Konami. While the series’ future might look bleak, today does mark the 15th anniversary of Silent Hill 2. To celebrate this occasion, it made sense to take a look back at Konami’s attempts at survival horror and rank the Silent Hill games from worst to best. Before we get onto the list, here are a few things to consider. First off, only games that took place on a PlayStation console were considered. That means no Silent Hill: The Arcade, although I’m pretty sure nobody played that anyhow. Second, and most importantly, there wasn’t some mathematical formula to come up with this list. It’s all just a matter of opinion.
