Square Enix Shows Off New Final Fantasy XV Footage at PAX West, Talks Linearity and Story
At its PAX West 2016 panel, Square Enix showed off some Final Fantasy XV gameplay including new footage. You can watch a recap of the panel above but if you want to get straight to it, skip to around 24.32 mark. At the 50.30 mark, you can check out Chocobo racing and finally, some brand new footage at 54 minutes.
Elsewhere at PAX, Square Enix spoke to IGN and explained why the game becomes linear in its second half and also talked a bit about its story. According to Director Hajime Tabata, things become more linear towards the end of the game and here’s why:
I didn?t want to end the game in an open world type of environment. At the very end, when the main character and the enemy are going against one another, there?s a build up in the story. I wanted to ensure that that last part was a little bit different from the open world environment and more of a packed, condensed type of game experience.
Final Fantasy XV‘s story takes place over ten years. Noctis’ appearance will change over the course of the game and players will experience the passing of time. Square Enix wants players to feel that the characters are “actual living, breathing characters rather than just symbolic characters.”Â
Final Fantasy XV is out on November 29 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.Â
