Take-Two Financials: NBA 2K17 Breaks Franchise Record, Has Shipped 4.5 Million Units
In addition to revealing that Mafia III is now the fastest-selling game in 2K’s history after shipping 4.5 million in its first week, Take-Two also revealed in their financial report that NBA 2K17 has broken a franchise record.
Released in September, NBA 2K17 shipped more copies in its first week than any other game in franchise history. Since then, it’s continued to outpace NBA 2K16, and has now shipped more than 4.5 million units to date.
As 2K wrote on Twitter recently, the next NBA 2K17 update will “address PROAM divergences as well as fix an issue preventing roster updates from occurring & more.”
Although they were mentioned in Take-Two’s financial report, the company refrained from giving sales data for WWE 2K17, XCOM on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and BioShock: The Collection. Elsewhere in the report, Take-Two said net revenue in the second quarter (ended September 30, 2016) was up 21% year-over-year to $420.2 million, with digital net revenue up 14% to $230.8 million. They contributed the overall increase to NBA 2K16, Grand Theft Auto V, Grand Theft Auto Online, BioShock: The Collection, and XCOM 2.
In his comment, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick discussed the strong quarter:
