Voice Actors Strike Update: Video Game Companies Rep Dismisses Union’s Claims
In the midst of the ongoing strike by video game voice actors, a representative speaking on behalf of video game companies has released a new statement, dismissing claims made by SAG-AFTRA. In an email to Destructoid, communications operative Sam Singer wrote that the strike was a “rash” decision and that the union didn’t give its members any room to vote on the package offered.
The Companies are impressed and appreciative of the research and investigation the union did on vocal stress and had agreed to work together on addressing the issues before union leadership rashly decided to strike, rather than allowing their members to vote on the package. SAG-AFTRA never made a specific demand on stunt coordinators, so that claim by the union is incorrect. Singer went on to claim that “only about 20-25% of video games use union talent.”
The ongoing strike affects major publishers including Activision, Electronic Arts, Take-Two and WB Games. We’ll update our readers when/if SAG-AFTRA responds to Singer’s statements.
