Watch Dogs 2 Benefits From a “Shorter Communication Period” With Fans, Says Producer

The first Watch Dogs was announced in June 2012 and released two years later in May 2014. During this time, the game underwent several changes including visual differences, which led to heavy criticism from fans. This time around, however, Ubisoft actually had the sequel in full alpha state when it was announced in June this year, and it’s releasing in November – just over five months after its initial reveal. According to Senior Producer, Dominic Guay, this benefits the title as it helps to manage expectations. Speaking to MCV, he said:
For us, one of the big benefits we had with Watch Dogs 2 is that we had a shorter communication period. When we announced the game, we pretty much had a full alpha of the title in place. We were able to show a lot of the missions, we could show gameplay right from the start. It was easier for us to say: ?This is the game that you will be playing, in its final state, in six months time in your home?. Watch Dogs 2 releases on November 15 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Just yesterday, Ubisoft showed off a new story trailer, giving us ten reasons why it’s better than the original. Perhaps, the shorter communication period is one of them.
