'Afghanistan '11' Is Bringing the Complexity of That Long Conflict to iOS
Developer Every Single Soldier has brought the very entertaining Vietnam '65Â [$9.99 (HD)] to iOS (which I really liked in my review) and has now turned its sights on an equally - if not more - complex conflict, Afghanistan. Afghanistan '11 is more than just Vietnam '65 with better weaponry and less green; the upcoming game has added 3D terrain elevation (a necessary feature because of Afghanistan's mountainous terrain), has overhauled the supply mechanic, and has added an 18-battle campaign mode. One similarity between these two games is that they both focus on the efforts to win the hearts and minds of the locals, but Afghanistan '11 goes one step further and includes the concept of nation building. So, not only are you using your forces to fight the enemy, you are also training the Afghan National Army to take over once you withdraw.
Nation building includes constructing water works and roads, providing UN aid, and more. At the same time, you still have to keep fighting against insurgent forces. Since this is a more modern conflict than Vietnam, you'll have better weaponry at your disposal such as drones, close air support, mine resistant vehicles, and more. Afghanistan '11 will also include world events that will impact your efforts as well as a campaign mode that includes iconic battles from the first days of the war to the withdrawal of the coalition forces. If you like wargames, keep an eye out for this one.
