Apple Unveils the 7th Generation iPod touch with A10 Fusion Chip and AR Support



It’s always hard to tell if the iPod line is ever actually dead or not. The music-focused iPods that made Apple wildly successful throughout the 2010s are more or less dead, sure, but there’s still that iPod touch line that Apple continues to sell to this day. Historically these have been pretty cool devices as they more or less mimic the major features of an iPhone but without any sort of contract or cell service obligations, and while they’re typically less powerful than the top-of-the-line iPhone devices that also enables them to be sold for quite a bit cheaper.

The problem is they don’t really refresh the iPod touch line all that often. It was nearly four years ago that Apple released the 6th generation iPod touch, which at that time featured the A8 processor of the previous year’s iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. And it was more than three years before THAT when the 5th generation iPod touch was announced alongside the iPhone 5 in 2012, featuring the A5 chip of the previous year’s iPhone 4S. So yeah, iPod touch refreshes don’t come around all that often, but out of the blue this week Apple did just that when they quietly unveiled the 7th generation iPod touch via press release. The iPod lives!
