'Breakout Ninja' Developer Shows Again How Ad-Removal IAPs Don't Make Much Money

Breakout Ninja [Free] has been a breakout hit for developer Part Time Monkey. Sorry, the Nintendo Switch presentation's puns are deeply embedded in my mind. Part Time Monkey has shared the download and revenue performance for the game, and it should serve as a reminder to some enthusiasts as to why ad removal IAPs are tough to come by in games. From over 650,000 downloads in week one of Breakout Ninja, the developer saw just over $1,100 in revenue from the ad removal IAP. That's a conversion rate of about 0.08%. But what about ad revenue" Well, about $23,000 in the game's first week just from ads. Yep. Unfortunately, it should serve as a reminder that ad removal IAPs are there less as a business decision, and more just to keep some people happy with the game.
