Original ‘Oceanhorn’ Updated with Improvements for Newest iOS Devices
For the past few years it seems like the focus of discussion has been around Oceanhorn 2, as it should since it’s the sequel to one of mobile’s best action adventure games. Now with Oceanhorn 2 out in the world as part of Apple Arcade, developer Cornfox has gone back and released an update for the original Oceanhorn ($7.99) today which adds improvements for the latest Apple devices. It’s funny because ever since its original launch way back in the fall of 2013, Cornfox has always been on the cutting edge of new hardware and software features from Apple and Oceanhorn was frequently updated to take advantage of them. Often this was right on the very day a new device or software feature would launch! It was sort of like Oceanhorn became this graphical benchmark app for anything new from Apple.
They haven’t quite kept that sort of pace in recent years, because they’ve been busy with the sequel, but they have always managed to update the game for major things like the full screen of the iPhone X and later devices. Today is the first update in nearly two years though so it’s certainly a welcome one. It promises “improved graphics and performance on new devices" and while I did dip into the pre-updated version and then into the post-updated version, nothing too dramatic jumped out at me improvement-wise. What did jump out at me though is just how damn fantastic this game still looks even nearly six years after its release....
