Digital versions of 4X games are tricky to pull off partly because of how demanding the genre can be in terms of time. Offworld Games is hoping to adapt the board game Exodus: Proxima Centauri into a great 4X digital game that will be easy to learn and easy to use, so hopefully the game will work well on the platform. Exodus: Proxima Centauri is inspired by Stanislaw Lem's The Magellanic Cloud (you might know him better as the author of Solaris) and has humanity building a new civilization after Earth has been destroyed in a nuclear holocaust. There are six factions vying for supremacy, and each player gets to build a space fleet made up of customized ships, conquer planets, negotiate and vote for political decisions affecting the universe, and more.

The digital version?which will release on iOS, Android, and PC?strives to make the game as immersive as possible through additional digital art. The game will include solo play versus an AI as well as asynch cross-platform multiplayer, which can either be slow or very fast-paced. The game is scheduled for release this summer.
