Disney Mix Messaging App Launches on iOS, Android
Disney Interactive announced the launch of Disney Mix on iOS and Android. The messaging application was designed for kids, tweens and their families, and it allows users to chat and play games with other users in the same space.
With Disney Mix, each user can create an avatar to represent them in the app by choosing from a variety of hairstyles, eye shapes, mouth shapes and other options. Users also have the option to choose an avatar representing a Disney, Disney Pixar or Star Wars character.
Once users have created their avatars, they can begin sending text messages and Disney-themed stickers to their friends. Users can also send animated “gags” to their friends, which may see their avatars animate or interact in some way. For instance, one gag allows a user to give their friend’s avatar a bouquet of flowers. Elsewhere, users can play games and complete other activities with their friends without leaving conversations. For instance, the “Spikes” game challenges players to complete side-scrolling platforming levels while collecting gems. When players are done, they can send challenges to their friends, who can try the same levels in an attempt to collect more gems. Another activity allows players to create fireworks shows to send to their friends, and so on.
In a blog post, Chris Heatherly, senior vice president and general manager of Disney mobile games at Disney, commented:
