Facebook, WhatsApp Face Another Privacy Flap in Germany

The data protection commissioner in the German city of Hamburg is taking aim at WhatsApp and its parent company, Facebook.
Mark Scott of The New York Times reported that Johannes Caspar ordered Facebook to stop collecting and storing data on WhatsApp users in Germany, and to delete all such data it had already collected.
WhatsApp announced changes to its terms of service and privacy policy late last month. Caspar said in a statement, as reported by Scott:
It has to be their decision, whether they want to connect their account with Facebook. Therefore, Facebook has to ask for their permission in advance. This has not happened.
Facebook told Scott it had complied with European privacy rules, and it was willing to work with Caspar.
