Lima Sky, Skillz Partner to Create Doodle Jump eSports League
Doodle Jump creator Lima Sky partnered with mobile eSports company Skillz to launch a competitive eSports league, allowing its players to compete in Doodle Jump tournaments.
Doodle Jump was released more than seven years ago. The endless jumper challenges players to jump as high into the sky as possible by tilting their devices to help their characters land on platforms in the air. The game reportedly has over 10 million monthly players, and it has been downloaded more than 200 million times.
With this partnership, Lima Sky will use the Skillz Tournament Management System to “organize, officiate and broadcast both player and brand-sponsored tournaments, along with multi-thousand person physical and virtual events.” No official release date for the eSports league was announced. However, TechCrunch reports that Lima Sky plans to launch the new version of Doodle Jump before the end of 2016.
In a statement, Andrew Paradise, CEO of Skillz, commented:
There are three key elements for a game to become a sport: players, leagues and spectators. Doodle Jump already has hundreds of millions of players and a ravenous fan base. With Skillz, it will now have organized, broadcasted tournaments and competitive leagues to transform it into a full-fledged eSport.
