Media Outlets Will Tap Facebook Live During Republican, Democratic National Conventions
More than 20 media outlets will live-stream elements of their coverage of the Republican National Convention and Democratic National Convention via Facebook Live.
Hadas Gold of Politico reported that media outlets including C-SPAN, CNN, Yahoo, Fox News, The New York Times and local outlets.
Those media companies will live-stream from ?Facebook Lounge? studios at both convention venues. For example, C-SPAN told Steve Dent of Engadget that it will go live on its Facebook page from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET each night during the RNC and DNC.
Facebook head of government and politics outreach Crystal Patterson told Gold:
This is the most engaged we’ve been at the convention, and it?s highly correlated to the fact that we have a lot of tools to offer. We’ve come a long way from 2012–we didn’t even have video back then, it’s hard to believe. And now we’ve taken it to the next level with Live. Our presence at the convention is different because our role generally in the conversation around elections is different. We make the tools pretty straightforward for people to use them on their own. We shouldn’t need a whole sort of hand-in-hand engagement to get good content.
The 2016 RNC will be held at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland July 18 through 21, while the 2016 DNC will take place July 25 through 28 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
