NBA Game Livestreamed via Facebook Live, But Only in India

A National Basketball Association game was livestreamed via Facebook Live for the first time ever Sunday night, but only for users in India.
As part of the Sacramento Kings? fourth-annual Bollywood Night celebration of traditional Indian culture, cinema and music, the team?s 117-106 loss to the Golden State Warriors was available for livestreaming by Facebook users in India via both clubs? Facebook pages, as well as the league?s page.
The livestream also included the Bollywood-style pregame introductions and performances by the Sacramento Kings Dancers and special guests.
Kings owner and chairman Vivek Ranadivé, who became the NBA?s first Indian owner in 2013, said in a release:
Technology allows us to enhance the fan experience in the arena and around the world like never before. Through this groundbreaking live broadcast, we?ll be able to engage new fans, introduce many to the excitement of NBA basketball for the first time and share the Kings cultural showcase that Sacramento-based fans enjoy every year through an incredibly powerful network that brings people together. The NBA told Kurt Wagner of Recode that Sunday?s livestream was a onetime event, and neither the league nor the social network would offer any details on financial terms.
