Report: Average U.S. iPhone User Spent $35 on Apps Last Year

New data from app store optimization company SensorTower reveals U.S. iPhone users spent an average of $35 on apps in 2015, on both premium downloads and in-app purchases.
Sensor Tower measured app installs on the estimated 110 million active iPhones in the U.S. in 2015, and found games accounted for the most downloads, at 10.5 game downloads, on average, per device. Photo and video apps came in second place, with an average of 3.4 app downloads per device.

Games also accounted for the majority of the average per-device revenue last year, at $25. Music apps came in second place, accounting for $3.40 of the total average per-device revenue.

In a blog post, Randy Nelson, head of mobile insights at SensorTower, commented:
Those familiar with App Store trends (and who?ve followed our quarterly Data Digests) know that the Games category offers developers access to not only the largest subset of app consumers, but also the one willing to spend the most on premium apps and in-app purchases. We estimate that each game install?an average of 10.5 per device?grosses an average of $2.43. It?s much more difficult for Medical apps to secure installs, by comparison, as they are the second least likely to be downloaded after Catalogs at an average of 0.2 per device in 2015. These apps have the third highest average gross revenue per install at $0.57, however, which may make the acquisition of these users worth the effort.
