Snapchat Discover, Meet Facebook Collections"
Next up on the list of Snapchat features cloned by Facebook is Collections, the social network?s take on Snapchat Discover.
Alex Heath of Business Insider reported that Collections, much like Snapchat Discover, will bring news, listicles, videos and other content curated by media partners to Facebook?s News Feed.
Heath cited two people familiar with the project, as well as internal Facebook documentation, and he reported that Facebook has engaged in talks with media and entertainment companies about content for Collections, but there has been no word on when it plans to launch the feature.
According to Heath, the potential Collections partners have been told that their content will go directly into News Feed, and there was no indication whether advertising would be part of the mix and, if so, under what terms. The Collections feature Heath reported on should not be confused with a previous Facebook feature with the same name.
The social network began testing a feature called Collections in October 2012, in which select retailers were able to add ?collect? and ?want? options and buy links to images of products. That initial test was shelved later that month.
Facebook once again tested Collections in December of that year with a mix of some of the retailers from the first test and some new partners, but the social network announced that it was shelving the feature in February 2014.
