Following the social media accounts for USA Network was extremely beneficial this past weekend for fans of its Mr. Robot.
The cable network surprised fans by streaming the first 40 minutes or so of the series? second-season premiere on social networks including Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and YouTube. The episode will not air on USA until Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET.
Haje Jan Kamps of TechCrunch reported that the Mr. Robot Facebook page interrupted a question-and-answer session Sunday night to present the first 40 minutes or so of the episode, with a masked figure introducing the video by saying:
Why waste more time on pointless speculation" You deserve something new, something unexpected, something you?ve never seen before. And Julia Alexander of Polygon reported that USA tweeted Sunday night that fans of Mr. Robot could watch the chunk of the second-season premiere episode on Twitter at 8:30 p.m. ET, on Snapchat at 8:45 and on YouTube at 9, as well as on USA?s website.
All of the videos were removed shortly after airing, although Alexander pointed out that they are available online via other accounts.
