Twitter: 187 Million Tweets on 2016 Summer Olympic Games
Twitter released new data Monday, which analyzed millions of tweets posted about the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. From Aug. 3 through 21, Twitter said more than 187 million tweets were posted about the Games, and those tweets led to 75 billion impressions (on and off Twitter) during that time frame.
Twitter revealed the top three “most tweeted” moments from the Games:
Neymar scores game winning penalty kick in shootout vs. Germany, securing the gold medal for Brazil.
Usain Bolt (Jamaica) wins gold in 100m for third straight Olympics.
Neymar goal puts Brazil up 1-0 vs. Germany in gold medal football match.
Overall, Twitter said the top three most mentioned athletes during the Games were Michael Phelps, Bolt and Neymar.
Meanwhile, the three most-discussed sports were swimming, football/soccer and track and field (athletics).
Finally, the most retweeted athlete tweet from the Games was posted by gymnast Simone Biles:
