Vine Out, Vine Camera In Jan. 17



Twitter announced in October that it was scrapping stand-alone video application Vine, and it said last month that it would be replaced by pared-down app Vine Camera. Now we know when.
The social network announced via a tweet on the Vine account that Vine would transition into Vine Camera Jan. 17.

Vine Camera will still enable users to create 6.5-second looping videos and share them to Twitter or save them to their smartphones. And Vine users can download their Vines via the app (until Jan. 17) or the Vine website. Vine added a frequently asked questions page with additional details, including:

Once Vine Camera is live, users will no longer be able to download their Vines via the app.
In order to transfer followers, Vine and Twitter accounts must be public, and they must be linked in users? settings.
Downloaded Vines will include captions and totals for likes, comments and revines, but video messages and the comments themselves will not be included.
Users can also request to download their Vines via email.

Jon Russell of TechCrunch also pointed out that Giphy rolled out a tool enabling users to convert Vines to GIFs.
