Rogue Wizards Teaches You To Love Thy Items



I honestly couldn't care less about story and characters in Rogue Wizards, but let me tell you this: I love my boots. I found them in one of the game's countless dungeons in a chest, and I'll never part with them. They keep growing on me - growing with me, actually. As I go treasure hunting, enemy slaying, and boss beating, they come along and gain experience in the process. Yes, my boots can level up and gain new skills, too! We'll never part, unless... Would you look at that"! Shiny new boots! I think I'll keep them.

If you're the kind of player who likes watching numbers go up, you'll feel right at home with Rogue Wizards. It's a game about vanquishing a bunch of evil wizards, yes, but even more than that it's a game about collecting stuff and watching it become ever more powerful. Items level up and gain random new skills, and these are the true foundation of character development. In comparison, leveling up your character feels almost trite. There are just three main stats to pump points into and a bunch of spells which, interestingly, need resources to be cast - eliminating spell points in the process. Additionally, there are no classes and very few restrictions which items can be used at any given time, allowing you to switch your equipment however you seem fit at all times. All of this is enough to make Rogue Wizards stand out from similar dungeon crawlers.
