Something Quite Special: Gris

After thirty hours of wandering through the Gamescom halls, I was thoroughly fed up with games. I guess that's to be expected - you can only take in so much, and the sheer number of interesting new titles was simply overwhelming. So there I was, dead tired, longing for a hot shower and my own bed more than anything else, even entertaining the thought of skipping my remaining appointments. And then suddenly everything changed. All because of Gris.
I watched the developers play Gris, and I was blown away. And then I got to play the same short demo level myself, and I was floored once again. The sheer beauty of it made me think that yes, games are pretty okay after all. Scratch that, games are amazing! It really was the kind of experience that makes you forget the world around you, utterly enraptured by the things unfolding on screen and the lovely music that accompanies them. These are the memories that stick with you for a long time. It was that good.
But what is Gris, I hear you asking" Let's call it a puzzle platformer with just a few puzzles and not a lot of platforming. Essentially, it's about exploration of big, hand-drawn levels. It plays really well, with responsive controls and easy jumping puzzles. There are some bits of information regarding the game's themes and mechanics that the developers don't want people to know just yet, so I will let its stunning visuals do the talking instead. Enjoy.
