Windscape Promises Relaxed Adventuring
When you're a lone developer, unchecked ambition can be a very bad thing. The dreaded scope creep can prevent your game from ever reaching a playable state, so balancing the things you want to do, the things you need to do, and that magical secret ingredient that makes everything fun can turn out to be quite the ordeal. Enter Dennis Witte and his action adventure Windscape, which seems to get that balancing act just right.
Which is not to say that Windscape is unambitious - far from it, actually. Its low poly world looks lovely, and it plays like a watered-down Elder Scrolls title with simple resource gathering and crafting added for good measure. Actually, it very much feels like a Zelda game, which is certainly intended, as Dennis Witte cites the series as major influence. The world you're exploring is mostly friendly, and even the critters you're encountering on your travels don't look too intimidating. It certainly doesn't feel like the world of Windscape is in any immediate peril.
The game just entered Early Access and offers an hour or so of content, with more than five times its current size planned for the full release. Some elements clearly need a bit of refinement - the combat is little more than a frantic clickfest at the moment - and the limited amount of stuff to do might deter cautious customers for now.
