Demos are great, but for story-based games, they provide a difficult challenge. No matter what, you kind of have to spoil something about the game, either the beginning, or worse, something in the middle. For the team behind quirky (and wonderful) RPG YIIK: A Postmodern RPG , the solution lay in creating a short standalone story. For those who want a taste of deadly plushies, missing persons, and minigame-based combat without giving away any of the main game's story, there's YIIK: Episode Prime.
The episode, called "The MixTape Phantom and the Haunting of the Southern Cave", lets players meet a couple of the game's characters and get a sense of its dream-like environments and its lighthearted, surreal kind of storytelling. It will take players to a couple of places from the main game, but the story is all its own, making sure your playthrough of the full game won't be affected at all.
You will, however, have a better idea on what to expect from the combat! Which is a good thing when you fight using records. That seems like something that needs practice. And speaking of records, prepare your ears for the tunes coming from this game. Some good tracks are in here, and they're just a taste of whats to come on when the full version comes out.
