Bethesda Talks Skyrim Mods on PS4 & Their Limitations



When Bethesda announced that Skyrim Special Edition will support mods on PlayStation 4 at launch later this month, they said, “You will not be able to upload external assets with your PlayStation 4 mods, but you will be able to use any assets that come with the game, as most mods do.” On Twitter, Bethesda’s Pete Hines explained what this means for you:
PS4 mods support using the files that come with the game and DLC. You can’t create new art assets, new audio files, etc.
Asked for a list of what we can have on PS4 mods, Hines said, “Anything that only uses/re-uses assets from the game or DLC. Open the Creation kit, load the game files, that’s what can be in PS4.” PS4 mods aren’t up on Bethesda.net yet, but they’ll let us know when they are. As you can see in the above trailer, accessing mods in-game will be done from the main menu. In response to someone talking about the limited PS4 mod support, Hines referenced how Sony turned down their previous version. “This is what’s been approved,” he said. “What we tried before wasn’t approved. I’m not sure what you’re expecting us to do.” He also said, “We provided the best version we could get approved.”
For the Trophies/Achievements in Skyrim Special Edition, the list is exactly the same as Skyrim on PS3/Xbox 360. Asked how mods work with Trophies, and if the mod size on PS4 has been increased from 900MB, Hines...
