Blizzard Investigating Overwatch’s High Bandwidth Update for Consoles
In a recent developer video, Blizzard’s Lead Engineer Tim Ford and Senior Engineer Philip Orwig discussed Overwatch‘s recently upgraded netcode and revealed that the developer is currently investigating how to bring the high bandwidth update to consoles.Â
The patch is meant to offer a smoother gameplay experience by reducing interpolation delay. “The net result is you will be shot around corners less, you’ll be able to predict escape moves better and the server will hear about it sooner,” said Ford. However, he also mentioned that those whose specific bandwidth requirements don’t meet the game’s requirements will automatically be “ducked down” and brought to the level of update rate the game had before the high bandwidth mode was introduced. We’ll update our readers if/when Blizzard is able to bring the patch, which is already being rolled out on PC worldwide, to consoles.
Don’t forget that if you haven’t given the game a chance yet, you have until Monday to try it out for free. Head over here for details.
