Destiny 2: Bungie & Activision Looking to Deliver a “Steady Stream of Great Content” Post-Launch



During Activision Blizzard’s post-earnings call yesterday, the company talked about Destiny 2, which is still on track for a 2017 release. As COO Thomas Tippl revealed, Destiny: Rise of Iron helped increase their monthly active users during the previous quarter, and they expect Destiny 2 to bring million of new players to the series:
Destiny’s new expansion, Rise of Iron, released on September 20, addressed a passionate community eager for new content and drove an increase in MAUs quarter-over-quarter. Activision and our talented partners at Bungie are hard at work on a sequel to Destiny which should energize both Destiny’s passionate fan base and bring millions of new fans to the franchise next year.
Tippl later added that Activision’s in-game revenue last quarter was driven by Rise of Iron, as well as a 100% increase year-to-date in the number of purchasers of Call of Duty in-game content and an increase in average revenue per user. During the Q&A portion, CFO Dennis Durkin was asked if he could comment on the timing or any innovations in the new Destiny. While he wouldn’t narrow down the 2017 release window today, he did say the sequel is designed to bring in new fans and Bungie is aiming to have a “steady stream of great content” post-launch:
