EA Explains Why They Do Betas, and Talks Future Star Wars Battlefront II Discounts
Electronic Arts recently held their Q2 2018 earnings call, and the company had a lot to say about Star Wars Battlefront II. This isn’t a surprise, as it’s set to be their major holiday release this year. During the call, EA’s Andrew Wilson discussed both the feedback to the beta, and a potential discount to tie-in to the movie release.
“Feedback from the [Battlefront II] beta and the added assets that we’ve put in the marketplace have been very strong,” said Andrew Wilson during Electronic Arts’ Q2 2018 earnings call (transcription via Seeking Alpha). “Feedback on gameplay was very positive. The beta was very robust and probably one of the most stable betas that we’ve had. And again, the core reason why we put betas into the marketplace is really to test the robustness of the infrastructure and systems on which a game of this size and magnitude will run on.” Wilson was later asked by a stockholder if the company had plans to discount the game around the launch of the next Star Wars film, The Last Jedi on December 15, 2017. “In terms of movie marketing around Battlefront II, and do we hope to get a benefit from that, the answer is absolutely yes,” revealed Wilson. “That’s part of the reason why we do a license to a great IP like Star Wars.
