Kingdoms of Amalur Dev Legal Battle With Rhode Island Finally Winding Down
Four years ago we all witnessed probably one of the biggest charlie-foxtrots of gaming between a game publisher owned by  former baseball pro player Curt Schilling and the entire state of Rhode Island. And now the lawsuit between all parties has finally come to a close.
It all started when the state government of Rhode Island offered to loan Curt Schilling’s company, 38 Studios, to relocate to Rhode Island. The initial thoughts there were to bring in more jobs to the state, and they had thought that Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning would sell well enough to warrant numerous sequels to pay the state back on their loan and make happy piles of profit for all involved. Unfortunately, that was not the case, and Rhode Island has been trying to almost literally get blood from Schilling’s turnips. All parties have agreed to settle for $2.5 million, which will be paid by the defendants’ insurer, Starr Indemnity and Liability Co. The court approved this settlement this morning. With this settlement, Rhode Island will have gotten $45 million in total from settlements across all parties. Once the court closes this case, only one part of the lawsuit will remain, which is against 38 Studios’ financial advisor.Â
