Paramount Pictures Nab Rights to Sonic the Hedgehog Movie

Paramount Pictures have grabbed the rights for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie. The upcoming film will be a mixture of CGI animation and live-action, and will be the first time that SEGA’s iconic blue hedgehog has graced the big screen. The film was originally being made by Sony Entertainment, but after thing soured, it was picked up by Paramount Pictures.
The Hollywood Reporter had the scoop, and detailed much of the cast that is working on the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie:
Neal H. Moritz, whose Original Film banner recently signed an upcoming first look deal with Paramount, will produce the project, which is coming to the studio after Sony Entertainment put it into turnaround.
Much of the team that was developing it at Sony remains: in addition to Moritz, Deadpool director Tim Miller is executive producing, while his longtime Blur Studio collaborator Jeff Fowler will make his feature directorial debut on the film. Also executive producing is Toby Ascher, while Dmitri Johnson and Dan Jevons will serve as co-producers. It’s great to see big names like Deadpool director Tim Miller and Neal H. Moritz attached to the project. It certainly gives us hope that it’ll turn out better than the Super Mario Bros. film did. Only time will tell if SEGA’s mascot will fare any better, though, players will get to see the hedgehog in action later this year when Sonic Forces releases on November 7, 2017.
