Project Cars 2 Won’t Run at 4K or 60 Frames Per Second on Consoles



If you’ve been keeping tabs on Project Cars 2 news, then you might have seen a quote surface yesterday from Slightly Mad Studios’ Game Director Stephen Viljoen state that Project Cars 2 will run at native 4K and be at 60 frames-per-second on the Xbox One X, while the specs for the PS4 Pro version aren’t decided yet.
Apparently, that quote is not true. In a post on the GTPlanet forums, Slightly Mad’s Ian Bell confirmed that the report was a misquote and console versions (including the all-powerful Xbox One X) will be at sub 60fps at 4K.
Yup, this was a misquote. We’re running sub 60 FPS at 4K and we’ll probably always be unless we drop livetrack and a host of other things… We’ll probably upscale from something very reasonable. Bell also couldn’t confirm whether Project Cars 2’s frame rate will be locked at 60fps, and mentions that the studio is willing to drop a few frames if it’ll mean for a more “interesting” racing experience.
We don?t like the term ?locked?. It would put us in first party territory where chest beating is more important than a great experience. We?ll be 60 most of the time in normal racing and we?ll push the consoles to and beyond their limits for more interesting racing. Even if that means dropping a few frames.
While the PS4 Pro (and Xbox One X) version of Project Cars 2 should fare better technically compared to the OG PS4 (and Xbox One), it seems it still won’t be at...
